I'm a BIG FAN of Creative Innovations!

Sandra Lunde's Poofy Hair Fan Tail

Inventive Ideas: Sandra Lunde's Poofy Hair Fan Tail
Creative Think Link Posted Jul-05-2007
"...the true creator is necessity, who is the mother of our invention." — Plato

Sandra Lunde's Poofy Hair Fan TailDo you ever wonder how new products emerge in the marketplace? Who has the ideas? And who has the money to make them happen?

I remember one motto of marketing from Business 101: "Find a need and fill it." And while it's true that big business churns out mass productions of new products each year to fill (and create more) needs, an astounding number of inventive products are conceptualized by ordinary people who one day decided that something could be done differently. And that "differently" could mean with less waste, more efficiency, or resulting in more choices.

Take for instance Sandra Lunde. She's credited with coming up with the idea for The Fan Tail, a simple molded plastic "tool" now sold as a styling accessory at Claire's Boutiques used to muss 'n fluff a short ponytail into a new messy hairdo. Yes, somewhere along the way Sandra was no longer satisfied with only sporting a traditional-styled ponytail and desired a new creative option for 'doing up' her do. Who knows how many tries it took Sandra to get the Fan Tail to do her do just right, but she did, and now it's a new creative product you and I both can use and benefit from should we tire off the tried-and-true grab n' band ponytail. How cool is that?

Sticky Note: New New Solutions! The lesson hair here is this: Just because there's always been one or two successful ways of doing something doesn't mean there can't be three or four. This works with anything. Creative thinking means we consider the possibilities and adventure in further past where someone else decided to stick a yellow sticky Post-it note that says, "No need for new ideas; eternal solution already found!" Wow, that would suck — I mean for progresses sake, and all...

The Fan Tail Press Release

If you're interested in learning more about The Fan Tail, here's the press release Joan Lefkowitz at Accessory Brainstorms sent to me:

"Want to poof up the volume of your hair in a matter of seconds? Want to wear the latest look in trendy messy up-do’s, but just can’t because your hair is too short? The phenomenal “Fan Tail” enhances short hair in record time for a fuller look with less hassle!

Creating a fashionably hip, untidy up-do can leave your locks broken in a tangled mess. You can solve this pesky problem by simply twisting a ponytail and pulling the “Fan Tail” clockwise in place. A few sweeps is all it takes!

Not only is it a perfect fit for any age, but is successful for a variety of hair lengths and textures, too: thick, short, medium, or fine. The “Fan Tail” is an innovative tool great for popular eye-catching styles, from a dazzling bun to poofy pigtails.

Sandra Lunde, a style-conscious mom from Iowa came up with the idea for this product while trying to get her short ponytail to have the fluffy, messy look.

The “Fan Tail” is available at Claire’s Boutiques, Claires.com or 1-800-CLAIRES."
